Should you buy an iPhone 8 Plus?

The older brother of the iPhone 8. They are very similar, but something makes the “plus” version special. Visually and hardware-wise, there is almost no difference between them, the only thing that is immediately visible is the screen size, since a 5.5-inch matrix is installed here. Is it worth overpaying for such a screen, perhaps for something else? Perhaps there is something through which it is not worth buying at all?

Design

The edges of the body, all the lines and more - repeats the iPhone 8. The difference is only in size. It is much larger, for some it will be a minus, for someone a plus. I can't take it as such. The placement of the elements is the same as before.

First of all, the colors changed, Rose Gold, Black disappeared, but Space Gray returned (which now looks more black). Many were waiting for a new color, unfortunately it was not shown. The phone became glass with a metal frame. It looks very stylish, reminiscent of the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s (very nostalgic feelings). Inside there is a steel frame and a frame made of aluminum 7000 series (aircraft). With such materials, it is very comfortable to hold it in your hand.

The device feels solid, reliable and comfortable. Thanks to such materials and design, the device received protection against water according to the IP67 standard. We saw this in the iPhone 7 / iPhone 7 Plus, but I repeat. I can not say that such a case does not have disadvantages. Since it is glass, you need to buy a case, the chance of breaking such a device increases in proportion to its appearance.

Updated Camera

The sensor has not changed, 12MP. I don't think this is a problem, since the expansion and image quality with such a sensor is not bad. The aperture size is the same as f/1.8. But there is one "but". The algorithms of the camera have been changed, that is, the pictures will be better, the number of "noise", "sharping", "water colors" in the photo has decreased. The camera has learned to shoot video in 4k 60 fps and slow motion at 240 fps. All the rest remained at the same level as it was. In defense of the new cameras, it is very difficult to improve the performance by changing the hardware with this sensor size, only processing algorithms remain here.

As for the additional camera, it is not much different from the 7 Plus here, so we will not focus on this.

Faster, bigger, stronger

What surprises me is the characteristics of the device. Inside there is an Apple A11 Bionic processor, which is so powerful that it can be easily "dragged" with a MacBook. This is a 6-core chip, which is more powerful than the one that is in the iPad Pro 12.9 2017. It is 25% more powerful than A10. In fact, it can be installed in the "dock" and used instead of a PC. With it, you can generally forget about "freezes", "lags" and other problems.

This processor power will be used for AR-kit (augmented reality). And absolutely fantastic graphics in games. You can easily reach the level of consoles. Thanks to the new processor, the distribution of resources has become much more optimal, so the phone "lives" to the maximum.
The amount of RAM is 3GB. This is quite enough for the system to work quickly, since the memory speed of the phone itself is at a very high level.

What's new in iPhone 8 Plus?

I will list the main points. 3D Touch hasn't gone anywhere. The stereo speakers remained where they were, but were 25% louder. Bluetooth 5.0 version, Touch ID is responsible for data transfer. Qi wireless charging is a bonus. This is realized thanks to the glass case. Definitely a plus, but you definitely need to purchase AirCharge from Apple, or an equivalent from other manufacturers.

Is it worth buying?

To be honest, the iPhone 8 Plus is a wonderful device. It is large, great for working with text and office programs. A very fast processor, with such power you will stop thinking about any problem with the speed of work. The new design has become more pleasant. A big plus for me is a tribute to the design of the iPhone 4, because for me it was a trendsetter of its time. I recommend!
