The front and rear panels of the "cap" received a design in the form of a massive grille, which is one of the elements of the active cooling system. Users believe that the design of the Mac PRO looks like a grater or sieve, and in response, Apple developers indicated that they were actually inspired by the "molecular crystal lattice structure."

Cooling system

MacPro 2019 is a high-performance tool for professional tasks that requires the right level of cooling. The internal elements of the cooling system and the well-thought-out design with perforated walls also affect the flow and required air pressure inside the case.

Three bladed fans are installed on board, which work almost silently, even at the peak moment of load on the processor and video card. Another fan is responsible for cooling the RAM slots, SSD and power supply, which removes warm air through the rear wall of the case.

Processor and Memory

What can the new Mac boast? Powerful Intel Xeon W processor, expandable from 8 to 28 cores with 56 threads, 66.5 MB cache and up to 300W of power. Note that the processor has excellent throughput due to the large amount of cache memory and 64 PCI Express threads.

The processor also received additional cooling thanks to four heat pipes. They take on excess heat from the surface of the CPU and dissipate it over the surface of the case and along the plane of the tubes themselves. And the cold air flows are supplied by a fan.

For users who care about the amount of memory, Apple engineers have also prepared something special. The new Mac PRO 2019 received a high-speed six-channel EEC memory system and 12 physical DIMM slots for expansion.

What does it mean? If necessary, you can install up to 1.5 TB of DDR4 RAM with a frequency of 2933 MHz and a bandwidth of up to 140 Gb / s. You can install additional memory sticks yourself. After all, it is enough to lift the aluminum cap, and you will see the connectors on the left side of the case, in the upper right corner.

Exclusively for those who deal with 3D graphics and 8K quality video, Apple has developed a special Mac Pro Expancion Module (MPX Module). In addition to the usual PCI Express connector, they also use a high-speed connection slot for the first time. It delivers an additional 475W of power, as well as the ability to integrate with Thunderbolt.

As for the video cards themselves, users can connect the top-end AMD Radeon Vega II Duo or AMD Radeon Pro Vega II, AMD Radeon Pro 580X (included in the basic package), AMD Radeon Pro W5700X.

In general, two Vega II Duo graphics cards with an MPX module can be added to the maximum configuration of the new Mac Pro. As a result, you will get just fantastic performance at the level of 56 teraflops from 128 GB of memory. Data transfer between graphics cards is 5 times faster thanks to the Infinity Fabric Link channel, which was developed by Apple engineers.

With powerful graphics, Final Cut Pro X renders 2.9x faster, and Maxon Cinema 4D renders 4.8x faster! Of course, there will be no noise from the fans, because the cooling system will successfully cope with any load.

To work with video, Apple engineers have developed another special module called Afterburner. Thanks to it, Mac Pro can instantly switch from the camera to the timeline and easily process video in 4K and 8K quality! Another incredible fact is that on the new Mac you can simultaneously edit 3 videos in 8K quality and as many as 12 (!) Videos in 4K quality.

System Security

Traditionally, the proprietary T2 chip is responsible for the security of Apple devices, which securely encrypts your data and keeps the information confidential. It also encrypts the SSD drive and ensures that only official and licensed software is loaded when the device is turned on.

High speed ports

Four Thunderbolt 3 ports were installed on board the Mac Pro, two of which, for the greatest comfort, were placed on the top of the case. Two traditional and well-known USB-A ports are placed on the rear panel next to two 10-Gigabit Ethernet ports.
